Granite Creek Gold Announces the Results of Its 2011 Fall Drilling Program

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2012) - Granite Creek Gold Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:GCX) (the "Company") is pleased to announce that it drilled 1,280 metres in six holes from a total of three sites in the Buzzer and Buzzer West zones in the autumn of 2011. The best intercept was from hole GC 11-74 with 57.6 m of 0.237% Cu, 0.008% Mo, 0.174 g/t Au and 1.5 g/t Ag. See table below for a complete tabulation of results.

Hole From-To (m) Intersection (m) Au (g/t) Cu (%) Mo (%) Ag (g/t) Notes
GC 11-74 11.4 to 69.0 57.6 0.174 0.237 0.008 1.50 Buzzer
GC 11-75 14.1 to 53.0 38.9 0.099 0.140 0.019 0.94 Buzzer
and 68.0 to 96.0 28.0 0.091 0.120 - 0.64 Buzzer
GC 11-76 33.0 to 38.0 5.0 0.160 0.228 - 0.58 Buzzer West
and 46.0 to 45.0 8.0 0.130 0.190 - 0.42 Buzzer West
GC 11-79 25.0 to 34.0 9.0 - 0.109 - 0.44 Buzzer
and 104.0 to 145.0 5.0 - 0.240 - 0.58 Buzzer

Hole 11-74 and 11-75 were drilled from the same site, south of the Buzzer zone, with hole 11-74 being a vertical hole and 11-75 an angled hole, drilled at -55 to the west. Holes 11-76 and 11-77 were drilled in the Buzzer West zone from the same pad with 11-76 being a vertical hole and 11-77 an angled hole, drilled at -60 to the southwest. Holes 11-78 and 11-79 were also from the same site in the Buzzer zone, south of the first two holes, with 11-78 drilled at -60 to the south-southwest and 11-79 and 11-80 drilled at -60 to the west-northwest.

Previous drilling in the Buzzer area had shown the zone to be open to the south. The 2011 program shows the zone to be narrowing and decreasing in grade in this direction. Drilling in the Buzzer West area was undertaken to test a large, greater than 400 parts per million copper soil anomaly and positive assays from rock fragments in the area. Drilling did not fully explain the presence of the anomaly. The Company will continue to evaluate the results.

In addition to the drilling, several man days of prospecting were conducted to evaluate areas around the Mohawk and Rowbottom showings. Review of historic reports received from Great Quest Metals, the vendor of the property to the Company, has revealed an unpublished report on a previously unknown zone of mineralization lying approximately 500 m SW of the Rowbottom showing. This new showing has been named the Rowtop. The Rowtop showing consists of a series narrow lead-zinc-silver stringers hosted in in rhyolitic tuff.

Snow cover prevented a complete review of the historic showing, however a few grab samples from the zone returned the following assays.

Sample Au (g/t) Ag (g/t) Pb (ppm) Zn (ppm) Notes
318515 0.12 3.5 492 Wall rock
318516 1.20 14.1 280 320 Stringer zone
318517 - 10.9 708 110

Prospecting in the area of a potential strike extension of the Mohawk showing located abundant quartz stockwork material in a talus slope with some displaying good mineralization. A single grab sample of well mineralized material assayed 1.15 g/t Au, 8.4 g/t Ag, 657 ppm Cu and 440 ppm Pb.

Core samples were logged by the field geologist and split on site using a manual core splitter. One half of each sample was bagged in 6 mil poly bags and tagged with a unique identifier. Bagged samples were collected in rice bags and shipped to Acme Laboratories in Vancouver, BC, where they were recorded, crushed, split and pulverized. Samples were then processed by a multi-element assay by 4-acid digestion and Ultratrace ICP-MS analysis, and Fire Assay for Au. The process of analysis includes a QA/QC protocol, including standards, duplicates and blanks inserted into that sample stream. The remaining half of the core is stored on site.

Future programs will concentrate in expanding the Empress deposit and the East, Granite Creek and Rowbottom zones. Geological mapping, geochemistry and geophysics will be deployed to further evaluate the Rowtop and Mohawk occurrences.
