Pain: Putting yourself out there.
You've missed an opportunity to connect for long enough. So how do you start turning
it around?
Gain: Bring your extended network online.
It's easy to develop your social media network just by connecting with people you
already know. You might be surprised at just how far your network extends, especially
when you start to see who your friends know.

Workout: Engage your core.
Start exploring Facebook®, Twitter® and LinkedIn® from a personal perspective.
While you're likely to find some crossover between friends and colleagues, focus
on your personal relationships first.
- Go to Facebook® and search for your best friends. Send
them friend requests.
- Visit LinkedIn® and send invitations to connect to at
least two colleagues.
- Sign into Twitter® and look for close friends or colleagues,
then follow them.

Go the extra mile: Jog your memory.
- Find more friends: Click on the
Friend Finder link within the right-hand column of your Facebook news page to search
for old friends from your hometown, college or past employers. Or scroll down and
click on Find Friends in the lower right. We'll mine your email contacts in a future
workout. In the meantime, send friend requests to people with whom you'd like to
reconnect.
- Join Facebook groups: Search for
groups and associations that you support offline and voice your online interest,
too.
