WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwire - Oct 31, 2012) - Zixi LLC (www.zixi.com) announced today that XOS Digital, Inc., the leading provider of sports video technology and digital media solutions, has implemented Zixi at the core of its content ingest, production and distribution system. Using unmanaged Internet Protocol (IP) networks, XOS Digital has successfully deployed Zixi to transport studio-quality gameday video to XOS Digital's data center and editing studios for real-time processing. XOS Digital will also utilize Zixi to stream HD video to its content-delivery networks, affiliates and Internet users. As content moves through XOS Digital's workflow, it utilizes Zixi's reliable IP-based transport, delivering cost savings and production flexibility.
"We have built our capture and production processes on a fundamental assumption that the unmanaged Internet is a viable transport for our content," said Pete Balkus, senior vice president, product development and network operations, XOS Digital. "Doing so has made XOS Digital a leader in the transition to unmanaged IP networks for video. However, it is not possible to succeed with an all-IP workflow without a reliable and 100% guaranteed technology to overcome the challenges of transporting video on the public Internet. Zixi has allowed us to successfully implement cost effective IP-based video distribution to multiple locations while providing the video quality both XOS Digital and our viewers demand."
XOS Digital serves sports fans, coaches and collegiate sports conferences including the Southeastern Conference, the BIG EAST conference and NCAA Football. XOS Digital also manages the XOS Digital Sports Network, with official conference and team-branded channels on YouTube. On a typical Saturday during the college football season, XOS Digital ingests approximately 80 games across the country from a mixture of satellite feeds and onsite video encoders. XOS Digital relies on Zixi Feeders to transport HD video streams from sites to its studios in Lake Mary, FL. In Lake Mary, Zixi Broadcasters are used to direct multiple streams to Zixi Receivers at various locations that provide HD video to XOS Digital's content-delivery network, video-on-demand servers and media servers serving live content to Internet users.
"The future of HD video transport is the unmanaged Internet," said Dennis Albano, CEO, Zixi LLC. "The benefits of using the Internet for video transport, including lowered cost and production flexibility, are powering an inevitable transition to the Internet. Zixi has enabled XOS Digital to realize these benefits today. A pioneer, XOS Digital is demonstrating to the industry at large how content producers can create new products, acquire new audiences and monetize new business models by shifting from costly legacy fiber to an Internet-based video transport architecture."
