CORAL SPRINGS, FL--(Marketwire - Aug 22, 2012) - Union Dental Holdings, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: UDHI) -- http://www.uniondental.com/ir -- a Company that operates and manages a network of dentists throughout the United States for union members, announced today the filing of a Canadian Patent for an ozone purified water disinfector to be used in dental operatories. The filing was done on behalf of a newly formed Joint Venture between Union Dental and Drinkable Air. The filing of this patent in Canada assures protection of the original USA patent filed recently. Under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the JV will have a 30 month window of protection to file its patents worldwide and be protected from the date of its original USA Patent filing which was made on July 12, 2012.
The Company intends to file this patent on a worldwide basis over the next 30 months as bacteria forming in dental lines can happen throughout the world in any dental facility. The filing for this patent comes amidst a multitude of troubling and sometimes tragic cases related to bacteria contaminated water within the dental office. OSHA For Dentistry recently wrote an article entitled "Recent Death from Contaminated Dental Waterlines Demonstrates Life & Death Importance of Monitoring Water Quality" written by Kerry Martin on April 4, 2012 which stated: "The dental community is on a high alert after an 82 year old Italian woman died in February due to complications related to Legionnaires' disease -- a life threatening type of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria -- which she acquired while receiving dental care.
Dr. Green, UDHI President and CEO, stated: "Bacteria is a common enemy for everyone in every aspect of life but even more important in a dental atmosphere. This issue must be addressed to ensure patients are getting the best treatment possible wherever they have their dentistry done and we believe this new product is the answer to the problem. It is my intention to approach legislators throughout America to make this product's use mandated in all dental offices."
Union Dental recently announced this Joint Venture Agreement with Drinkable Air and the filing of USA Patents to develop ozone based bacteria killing products for the dental industry. Last month Energy Edge Technologies Corp (PINKSHEETS: EEDG) informed UDHI that EEDG had entered into an agreement to purchase all of Dutchess Private Equities Fund's shares and warrants in Union Dental, making them a major shareholder in UDHI.
