Unigen Corporation Unveils New SATA 6Gbps Orion SSD Drives and Introduces EnduraCharge(TM) Technology

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 15, 2011) - Unigen Corporation, a global OEM designer and manufacturer of Enterprise Class Flash Storage SSDs & DRAM Modules, is announcing its latest-generation of the Orion series solid-state drives featuring 6Gbps SATA 3.0 host interface and its new patent-pending EnduraCharge™ Technology.

Unigen's Orion 2200 series SSDs are packed with the renowned SandForce 2281 controller providing outstanding performance optimized to withstand the demanding enterprise environment. Using a multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash, Orion 2200 series offers sequential read/write speeds of up to 550MB/s providing one of the highest throughput performances available in the market. The Orion 2200 series is currently available in densities from 64GB to 512GB.

Unigen's Orion 2500 series SSDs, built with the SandForce 2582 controller, are the perfect solution for enterprise storage applications requiring advanced reliability features. It supports both single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash and enterprise multi-level cell (eMLC) NAND flash, giving options for the best enterprise solution. With an impressive random 4kB file read/write performance of up to 60k IOPS, the Orion 2500 series drives take fast data streaming speed, application load time, and system responses to the next level. In addition, the Orion 2500 series SSDs come equipped with Unigen's newly developed EnduraCharge™ Technology.

"Unigen's continued investment in state-of-the-art equipment and research and development has kept us in the forefront when it comes to providing superior enterprise-level flash storage solutions," said Paul W. Heng, CEO of Unigen Corp. "Unigen's EnduraCharge™ was designed to meet the changing requirements of Tier-one customers and help them maintain their position ahead of the curve."

Unigen's patent pending EnduraCharge™ Technology enhances data protection for maximum stability and reliability during unexpected power loss. It is designed with tantalum capacitors which have no electrolytes eliminating the possibility of gradually degrading until failing, and allows for a considerable wider operating temperature range. Unigen's EnduraCharge™ Technology protects the capacitors against short circuit failure to ensure a sufficient amount of reserve power is available to guarantee reliable drive operation. "The latest SandForce 6Gbps SSD Processors matched with these new enterprise-class Unigen Orion 2500 solutions enhanced with their new EnduraCharge™ Technology will further accelerate the adoption of SSDs in the enterprise market," said Kent Smith, Sr. Director of Product Marketing at SandForce. "Also, their new Orion 2200 entry-level enterprise solutions can take advantage of our recently announced ability to maximize the Windows Experience Index score enabling the highest single-drive performance in these environments."

Samples of Unigen's Orion 2200 series are now available for OEMs. The Orion 2500 series samples will be available June 2011.
