SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 11, 2012) - MikroTik, a global leader of IP network equipment and software, announced that it has selected Tilera's 64-bit TILE-Gx processor to power its new flagship Cloud Core Router (CCR) family.
The explosive growth of mobile traffic is transforming the overall network access market and reshaping network infrastructures. Coupled with this, the growth in traditional areas such as triple play services, VPN services and converged networks are reducing overall network equipment life cycles, and creating the need for sustained innovation by equipment manufacturers. With enterprise applications transitioning to the cloud and the increased use of personal devices, there is a greater need for integrated services like video content management, security, deep packet inspection and other application-aware services for all classes of routers, including branch office and mid-range routers.
MikroTik selected the TILE-Gx processor to power its 36-core Cloud Core Router, as it provided unparalleled performance and a significant number of integrated I/O ports coupled with the flexibility to integrate multiple functions into a single SoC (system-on-chip) solution.
"Our customers will have all the hallmarks of MikroTik-branded products, the RouterOS software, and a very high performance platform to expand their network capabilities," said John Tully, CEO, MikroTik. "The TILE-Gx processor was an obvious choice. Its unique combination of high performance, unparalleled integration and overall ease of programmability helped us get to production in record time," added Tully.
Tilera's highly integrated 64-bit TILE-Gx processor includes SGMII, PCIe, multiple integrated 10GbE interfaces, a high speed encryption engine, and several other modules that saves board space, design time, and reduces overall bill of materials (BoM) cost.
The initial device in the Cloud Core Router family, the CCR-1036-12G-4S, features 36-cores, 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports and four SFP fiber module ports. Future members of the family will support multiple 10Gbit SFP+ fiber ports and tens of gigabits of network throughput.
"The MikroTik Cloud Core Router family demonstrates how the TILE-Gx processor is being used by our customers to create differentiated solutions which leverage their unique IP," said Devesh Garg, founder, president and CEO, Tilera. "We expect the disruption in the enterprise market to accelerate, and features such as video/voice processing, security and other application-aware services to become integral aspects of branch office and mid-range routers. Our unique value proposition of delivering the highest performance at the lowest power, ease of programming and high levels of integration makes us an ideal solution for this market," added Garg.
