STANHOPE, NJ--(Marketwire - Sep 25, 2012) - Three-time Emmy Award-winner and percussionist Emedin Rivera and his Latin jazz trio, Tropical Turbulence, will perform Thursday, September 27 beginning at 9 p.m. at the Stanhope House (45 Main Street, Stanhope) during the jazz cabaret series. Tickets are $10.

Rivera is the inventor of the Cyclone Shaker, a percussion instrument that "sounds like a rain stick," said Rivera, "and every percussionist should have one." Rivera is also the brainchild behind Bongo Heads known as "EM-RAYS," made with sturdy double-ply plastic that withstands moisture, heat and cold, producing excellent sound for recording.

ABOUT PERCUSSIONIST EMEDIN RIVERA:
Emedin Rivera started playing the bongos at 8 years old and his passion for music grew exponentially because of his father and uncle who both played in a trio in Puerto Rico.

Emedin has a unique and creative ability to incorporate and blend his Latin Caribbean African influences into a vast array of musical styles. Rivera, over the years, has developed his own system of playing drums and congas simultaneously, (sounding like three people), calling it "Percussion Kit." He is well known for his sound effects, many of which are hand made by him. They can be heard on some of the National Geographic shows.

Rivera has won three Emmy Awards -- New York: A Documentary Film (2003) directed by Ric Burns, The American Experience (2004), and Picture Perfect: The Stories Behind the Greatest Photos in Sports (2002) for best music. He is also featured in the September 2012 issue of Modern Drummer Magazine.
