LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 31, 2012) - Steven Hacker, CAE, the long-time president of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), will begin the next stage of his professional career as a columnist and resident association management expert for Association News magazine. Hacker, who will leave the organization on September 30, will make his debut as "The Association Doctor" in the October issue of Association News.
"In the next chapter of my career, I want to help educate future generations of association leaders by sharing the things I've learned over the years," said Hacker. "Some of these lessons involve subjects that even the industry organizations do not discuss. With the platform of Association News, I will have the freedom to address the key issues that mean the difference between success and failure in the association management profession."
"We are thrilled that Steven will be bringing his more than 40 years of association management experience to the pages of Association News," said Publisher Timothy Schneider. "Having someone with his expertise contributing on a regular and exclusive basis to Association News will provide tremendous value to our readers."
Hacker, who began his association management career in 1970, earned the Certified Association Executive designation in 1976 and was named a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives in 1988. Hacker's recent industry honors include being named one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry for 12 consecutive years; winning "Industry Leader of the Year" honors from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and the Vision Award from the New York Society of Association Executives; and induction into the prestigious Convention Industry Council's Hall of Leaders.
As president of IAEE, formerly the International Association for Exhibition Management (IAEM), Hacker built membership from less than 2,600 to more than 9,000 and positioned IAEE at the center of a large and growing network of national, regional and international organizations in the events business. IAEE has offices in Dallas, Brussels, Singapore and Beijing. Seventeen international, national and regional associations in the exhibition industry have aligned themselves as working partners of IAEE through a series of reciprocity agreements. IAEE's CEM Professional Designation program now operates globally through a network of licensees.
Hacker's first column, "The Untold Truths of Association Management," will run in the October print and digital editions of Association News. Each monthly column will also be expanded upon across the Association News media platform, including online at AssociationNews.com and at live events. Hacker will also be available as a guest speaker and expert presenter at industry events and as a consultant to organizations wishing to increase their effectiveness.
