SOLOMONS, MD--(Marketwire - Mar 11, 2012) - The team of veterinarians at Solomons Veterinary Medical Center is working to promote pet wellness by early detection of disease and offering special pricing on several types of veterinary services. According to the center staff, the special priced services are to encourage owners to bring their pets in before there are signs of disease. The special priced services include annual prevention screens, early spay and neuter surgical procedures, dental cleaning, and flea/tick and heartworm medications. The doctors hope that making pet care easier to obtain and more affordable for pet owners in St. Mary's and the surrounding communities will encourage them to provide a higher level of pet care at home to prevent disease.
As there are approximately 3.7 million animals which are euthanized at pet shelters nationwide each year, the vet clinic is an advocate of having pets spayed or neutered. According to the Center, these pet sterilization procedures can also help a cat or dog live a happier, longer, healthier life and prevent certain unwanted behaviors.
"Even though the spay or neuter procedure has many benefits and is effective for controlling the pet population, many pet owners simply cannot afford to have it done," Dr. Nancy E. Ball said. "To help alleviate this problem, we're offering an Early Spay and Neuter Special for cats and dogs which are less than one year old. The spay procedure costs $199, while the neuter surgery is available for $149."
The veterinary clinic is also concerned about pet dental health. In conjunction with National Dental Month in February and March, the Center is offering a dental cleaning for $175, which includes a free bag of the clinic's dental diet food by Royal Canin and a courtesy medical progress dental exam two weeks after the procedure. Dr. Ball stated that many pet owners do not know that they need to take care of their pets' teeth. Neglecting a pet's teeth can lead to infection, tooth loss, abscesses and more serious problems such as kidney disease, said the veterinarian.
"Our veterinary clinic is truly dedicated to helping pets live healthier lives," Ball said. "We treat and care for pets as family. It hurts us to see pets being euthanized or suffering unnecessarily when there is so much that can be done to prevent disease and promote health. With today's economy, we understand it may be difficult for pet owners to afford pet healthcare procedures that can make a difference, so that's why we decided to make these specials available."
The Solomons vet clinic is also helping owners protect their pets from the potentially dangerous effects of heartworms by providing a discounted supply of monthly heartworm medication. Heartworm attacks the circulatory system, heart and lungs and can lead to death if not treated. Pet owners who purchase a twelve month supply of Heartgard, a monthly chewable tablet, will receive a $12.00 savings.
