LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Jan 17, 2013) - Dr. Dina, a pioneer of the medical marijuana movement and beloved consultant to hundreds of Hollywood celebs, including Snoop Lion (a/k/a Snoop Dog) -- her close friend of over 20 years who gave her the nickname "Dr. Dina" after she opened Southern California's first medical marijuana doctor's office in 2003 -- has finally decided to go public following the prominent mention she received (an inadvertent "outing") in the January 2013 GQ article on Snoop titled "The Lion Smokes Tonight" (gqm.ag/Xndmro).
In the article, Dr. Dina is identified as "a thin brunette who has the whole Nancy Botwin look down cold," a reference to Mary-Louise Parker on "Weeds." But that's not even the half of it -- the character Nancy Botwin was inspired by Dr. Dina, a 90-pound Jewish girl from Tarzana who had direct contact with creative personnel on the show during development. And the similarities between the two women go far beyond their looks.
Given the sensitivity of the business and the conservative community in which she lives, Dr. Dina has intentionally and methodically avoided public attention. These same reasons contributed to her never pursuing any claims against the show. However, due to medical marijuana now being accepted in almost 20 states and supported by 77 percent of Americans (per a recent CBS poll), with the GQ article on the stands, and with Weeds over, Dr. Dina is finally ready to tell the true story behind "the real" Nancy Botwin -- which is far more intriguing than the make-believe version. In doing so, she hopes to correct many misconceptions created from the show and which otherwise exist, while showing the softer side of the medical marijuana business and transforming the public's understanding of this important social issue.
Since 2003 she has consulted with over three dozen non-profit Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in California, Colorado and Oregon. Moreover, she consults with the City of West Hollywood and Los Angeles to help safely regulate the business. After a decade of experiences and inspiring a hit television show, Dr. Dina is finally ready to share her story.
