EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2012) - Thanks to years of research and funding, HIV is no longer a death sentence but it is a life sentence; A life of living with a chronic disease and the stigma and discrimination that goes with it.
On Sunday September 23rd, Edmontonians will take part in a 5km non-athletic walk to help raise awareness and funds for HIV and AIDS programs, services and education. All money raised will stay in our city to help those living with the disease. The goal is to get to zero: zero new transmissions, zero discrimination, zero AIDS related deaths.
Our theme this year is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" as we have some outstanding travel prizes this year! A trip for 2 anywhere WestJet flies, a VIA Rail package to Jasper and our Grand Prize, a Trip for 2 to Beijing to participate in the first ever China AIDS Walk on the Great Wall! Included in this package are 1 week accommodations at the exclusive Fairmont Beijing.
The Honourable Laurie Hawn, PC, CD, MP (Edmonton Centre) has issued a fundraising challenge this year for Edmonton to "out fundraise" him. As the multiple year "Top Walker" he dropped the gauntlet for someone to "love him or hate him…just come out and beat him!"
