Record-Breaking Lotto 6/49 Jackpot: First Winner Cashes In

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 17, 2013) - Chad Seguin is floating on cloud nine and still waiting for reality to sink in after collecting more than $15.8 million in jackpot winnings.

The 41-year-old Vancouver resident matched all six numbers on the April 13^th Lotto 6/49 draw to win his $15,853,471.30 share of Saturday's record-breaking $63 million jackpot.

The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased around 4pm Saturday at the Chevron gas station at McDonald and 16^th Avenue in Vancouver.

"You just get this lucky feeling that maybe it could be you," said Seguin, who decided to buy a ticket at the last minute due to the big jackpot. "The odds were not in my favour but turned out to be excellent just the same!"

After checking his ticket on Sunday morning and discovering he was holding one of the winning tickets, Seguin says he was in total disbelief. "I thought 'this is crazy' and I had to look two to three times at the number because it was so large and I didn't understand what I was seeing. I was thinking about the TV commercial about the guys fly fishing."

In a state of shock, he borrowed another customer's cell phone to call his wife. "I said 'honey, I won the lottery!' She said 'You're kidding!' so the gentleman who lent me his phone went on to tell her it was true!"

Seguin says he'll now look for a new home, possibly buy a new vehicle and spend some time considering what to do next.

"We won't change our life drastically but it will definitely be a life-changer! We'll also help family and provide some financial freedom for them too."

There were four winning tickets from the April 13^th draw, three in B.C. and one in Alberta, each worth $15,853,471.30. The two remaining winning tickets from B.C. were purchased in Surrey, but these prizes have not yet been claimed. Lottery winners have 52 weeks from the draw date printed on the ticket to come forward to claim their prize.
