PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM A FATHER: Michael Eligon Jr. was shot and killed by a Toronto Police Officer on February 3, 2012

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 1, 2012) -

Michael's father, Michael Eligon Sr., says the following:

"Michael's death was a tragic loss for his eight year old son, to whom he was a very loving father, and to the rest of his family, as well as to his friends. We are finding it very difficult to understand and to deal with Michael's death.

There does not appear to be any justification for Michael's death. Michael was not a violent individual, and our family is deeply saddened by our tragic loss. As a family, we are committed to advocating for justice, and preventing future unfortunate deaths.

We are very grateful to the many people who have demonstrated their concerns about the circumstances in which Michael was killed.

I have retained Charles Roach and Peter Rosenthal of Roach, Schwartz & Associates to represent me at the inquest into Michael's death.

At the present time, Michael's family is too upset to participate in any interviews or public statements. I request that any inquiries be made to our lawyers.

I want the entire truth about Michael's killing to come out so that justice can be served.

I hope that the coroner's inquest jury will make recommendations that will avoid deaths of people who find themselves in circumstances similar to Michael's."
