WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Oct 22, 2012) - Liz Lopez, an attorney in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Washington, D.C. office, has once again been selected by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Information Programs to participate in its outreach program related to the 2012 Presidential elections and the U.S. electoral process.
Lopez will travel to Colombia as part of a bipartisan State Department delegation from Oct. 29th-Nov. 2nd. She will share her perspective as a Democratic strategist on the U.S. elections and the Democratic Party's platform on the economy, U.S. relationship with Latin America, trade and other important issues. Lopez will also participate in various meetings, presentations, and media interviews during her visit. Last month, Lopez traveled to Ecuador and Paraguay and engaged a broad audience of students, political and business leaders, and numerous media outlets throughout both countries.
As a member of the firm's Government Relations and Trade Regulations Groups, Lopez counsels foreign and domestic clients on international trade regulatory matters involving customs and import compliance, and export controls.
Lopez also represents clients before the legislative and executive branches of the federal government and conducts outreach to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. She is a frequent speaker on economic and election issues, including the increasing role of the Latino electorate in the U.S. Lopez has been featured on national and international political shows on radio and television, including BBC, CNN, CNN en Español, NBC, and Univision.
A former prosecutor, Lopez is fluent in Spanish and has more than 10 years of public and private sector experience, including service as counsel to Fortune 500 companies. She has also been selected as one of 15 Hispanic leaders nationwide for a fellowship program sponsored by the Fundacion Carolina.
