Pretty as a Picture: Make an Artistic Statement With the New BRAVIA™ E4000 Series
EUROPE--(Marketwire - April 9, 2008) -
-- Unique 'picture frame' design enhances any interior as an elegant
artwork
-- Picture Frame Mode creates a private art gallery experience, displaying
one from 6 pre-installed masterpieces, or any favourite photo
-- Three screen sizes and four blend-in frame colours to suit any room
The picture perfect BRAVIA™ E4000 series lets you create a personal
artistic statement and display breathtaking still images for everyone to
enjoy. A radical departure from traditional sets, the newest BRAVIA™
series proves your TV doesn't have to be a boring black rectangle taking up
space when you're not watching your favourite shows.
The beautifully styled E4000 series makes an elegant addition to any room
décor. Inspired by the new Draw the LINE design concept by Sony, its clean, understated lines
enhance your environment without distracting from enjoyment of the total
viewing experience.
32-inch and 40-inch Full HD models are
supplied with a stand, or can be wall mounted to become an integral part of
your personal living space alongside other framed works of art. They're
complemented by a smaller 26-inch model -- also wall mountable -- that's
ideal for freestanding on a desk or table top with family photos.
There's a choice of four colour frame options to blend effortlessly with
contemporary or traditional interiors: Midnight Sky, Aluminium, Pearly
White and Dark Walnut.
The E4000 series features Picture Frame
Mode, displaying your favourite image on screen to suit your mood or
the ambience of the room. Whether you're socialising with dinner guests or
just relaxing, Picture Frame Mode turns your TV screen into a 'blank
canvas' for displaying treasured images with quality like no other.
By default you can select from a gallery of six artistic masterpieces
stored in the television's memory, ranging from beautiful landscapes to Pop
Art and van Gogh.(1)
Superb HD quality images are displayed in Picture Frame Mode with lush,
warm colours and exquisite detail. In contrast with normal TV viewing mode,
image brightness is reduced to mimic a real painting.
Alternatively, Picture Frame Mode is
ideal for showing off your favourite photo, whether it's a family portrait
or an unforgettable holiday moment. Images can be displayed from any
connected USB flash memory device such as a Micro Vault Tiny that slips
discreetly into a socket on the side of the TV set.
When in Picture Frame Mode, power consumption is 35% lower than watching
regular TV.(2) For even greater energy efficiency, a timer switches from
Picture Frame Mode to power-saving Standby Mode after a preset time --
great for people who forget to switch off. This season's BRAVIA™ line-up
is also the most energy efficient yet
from Sony: in Standby Mode the E4000 consumes just 0.19W of power.
As you'd expect, the BRAVIA™ E4000 delivers superb picture quality
whether you're enjoying regular broadcasts, DVDs, movies on Blu-ray
Disc™, the latest PLAYSTATION®3 games or HD footage captured with your
Handycam® camcorder.
The range-topping 40-inch model features x.v.Colour for displaying an
extended, more lifelike colour palette with compatible sources. The same
model also supports PhotoTV HD mode, ensuring amazingly lifelike
reproduction of still photos from a connected compatible Cyber-shot™ or
a compatible alpha(3) digital SLR camera.
"Once again Sony is reinventing ideas about your television's role in the
living room," says Hiroshi Sakamoto, Marketing and Product Planning Vice
President, TV Operations Europe, Sony Europe. "The BRAVIA™ E4000 series
blurs boundaries between consumer electronics and fine art. This
innovative, gorgeously styled television set looks as good on your wall as
the pictures it displays."

NOTES TO EDITORS
Environmental Info
Sony is engaged in a constant review of its manufacturing, operational and
business practices to ensure that its products are developed in an
environmentally responsible way. This approach can broadly be divided into
three areas:
Environmental Information: 3Ps
Product: As with all BRAVIA™ TVs, the E4000 series is extremely energy
efficient.
Auto shut-off automatically turns off the TV when there is no input signal
and enters the standby state. This also happens when there is no operation
during a certain period of time. The E4000 series also gives the user a
choice of "home" or "shop" modes on first switch-on, with "home" mode
having significantly less power consumption than "shop" mode, which is
typically the only default setting (intended for very bright environments
like shops).
Using an integrated light sensor, the BRAVIA E4000 series can automatically
measure ambient lighting levels and dynamically adjust the brightness of
the TV, which helps to reduce power consumption in operation.
Power Consumption in Standby Mode is only 0.19 watt (for all screen sizes).
All cover/housing parts >25g are halogen-free, as are the printed circuit
boards.
The chemical specifications of flame retardants used in the cover/housing
plastic parts are all provided according to the International ISO Standard
1043-4.
Process: To meet the requirements for recycling, all parts used in the
production of the BRAVIA™ E4000 series are easily separable.
All plastic parts weighing >100g are made of one material or of easily
separable materials. The material codes of all plastic parts >25g are
according to the International ISO Standard 11469.
35% of the halogen-free packaging consists of recycled paper and VOC-free
ink is used for printing.
The instruction manual is printed on non-chlorine bleached paper with
VOC-free ink.
Planet: Sony is determined to lead the way as a responsible manufacturer.
As a company we are focussing on three key areas of investment:
1. Reducing CO2 gas emissions
2. Increasing the percentage of renewable energy used in our
manufacturing facilities
3. Minimising the resources used by our factories in manufacturing
