CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 19, 2012) - To be a kid again! Hula-Hooping, hop-scotch, jumping on trampolines! Some of our fondest childhood memories are from when we were playing. Giving a purpose to play, a local non-profit is playing it forward to the disadvantaged youth in our own community.
Sparked by the desire to give back to children without the opportunity to participate in organized sport, Gymtastics Play-it-Forward Projects was formed. The organization's mission is to reach and teach disadvantaged children throughout the world. For the past couple of years the team has organized and taken supplies, toys, sports equipment and teaching material to share with teachers and children in Tanzania and South Africa. They've also packed up giant play parachutes and games guides to young volunteers going to work with children in Peru. This year the project will be a Spectacular Sports and Games Summer Camp week highlighting gymnastics, sports and games activities for underprivileged children right here in our own backyard, "Calgary".
"This year's Summer Camp will promote fitness and physical development in a fun and creative environment," says Darlene Fedyna, President Gymtastics Play-It-Forward Projects. "We aim to help children and youth who participate in our projects reach their fullest potential, while building self-esteem, self-confidence and acceptance of others." The August 7-10, 2012 spectacular sports and games camp will serve approximately 100 local kids, ages 4-11 at Gymtastics Gym Club.
