Opanga Networks Expands Management Team as Market for Wireless Network Traffic Management Heats Up

Sr. VP of Business Development Bob Wise Brings Go-To-Market Expertise With Tier 1 Wireless Carriers

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Aug 16, 2011) - Opanga Networks, the leading innovator of pragmatic mobile video optimization solutions that substantially improve wireless network utilization that aids operators in managing the overwhelming growth in traffic on their networks, today announced that Bob Wise has been appointed as senior vice president of Business Development to lead the global sales effort for the company's suite of NetRover™ solutions. Opanga's NetRover is an efficient content distribution technology platform that enables media-rich mobile applications to deliver cumbersome data files to mobile devices without degrading the network and preserves the performance of the network for subscribers.

"As mobile consumers embrace cloud services from companies like Apple and Google to manage and store their photos, videos and music online, networks will crumble under the traffic load. Wireless carriers that we've been talking to are extremely interested in how our NetRover technology enables them to offer cloud-based services outside of monthly data cap restrictions," said Dave Gibbons, CEO of Opanga Networks. "Bob has tremendous industry experience that will no doubt be invaluable to our team as we continue to help carriers realize the advantages of NetRover so they can monetize surplus network capacity -- and get ahead of the traffic surge from cloud services."

Wise has been a leader in mobile software and networking for nearly 20 years, and has helped grow some of the most successful companies in the industry. Prior to joining Opanga, he was the senior vice president of Mobile Care at Nuance Communications, where his team built and launched ground breaking customer care software on tens of millions of mobile handsets at carriers around the world. In addition, Wise was CEO of ThinkFree, one of the first cloud-based office automation offerings; CTO at USWeb, a 9,000 employee Internet development company; and VP of Worldwide Consulting at Novell, a global leader in local area networking. Wise holds a BS degree in Computer Science.

"This is clearly an exciting time to provide practical solutions that help operators manage mobile traffic growth over networks that are being increasingly overloaded with streaming video and cloud-based services," said Wise. "NetRover applies patented technology that optimizes carriers' existing and new networks for immediate payback. Pre-positioning content to mobile devices has never been more relevant than it is today."

Leveraging surplus capacity enables NetRover solutions to pre-position content directly into the end user device, offering the customer a completely seamless experience. Because the content is locally available, users no longer have to wait for videos, emails, etc. to load. For example, video playback starts instantly, never freezes and does not depend on a live broadband connection -- a complete turnaround from the consumer experience today. NetRover provides the opportunity to create new value-added services that will bring in new revenues from existing infrastructure and capacity.
