Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Inc. is a non-profit corporation whose mission is dedicated to charitable, educational and community-based services. The organization was founded in 1975 after a small group of Los Angeles-based African-American women judges and attorneys held a luncheon meeting to discuss the marked absence of an organization that addressed the needs and concerns of African-American women in the legal profession.

Grant becomes the 37th president of the BWL. She is widely regarded as one of the top labor and employment attorneys in California by clients, colleagues and competitors nationwide, as evidenced by her track record of success representing management in numerous important and high-stakes employment matters, as well as her elections and appointments to powerful committees and governing bodies by labor and employment attorneys throughout the country. Born in London, England, and raised in London and Toronto, Grant earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and her law degree at UCLA School of Law. She joined MS&K in 1999 and was named partner in 2005.

Grant recently was named one of California's "Top Labor & Employment Lawyers" by the Daily Journal (2011). She has received a number of other honors and awards in recognition of her considerable legal expertise and experience, including: "Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars" (Super Lawyers, 2005-2010); "Top Women Litigators" (Daily Journal, 2007); and "10 Up and Coming African American Lawyers to Watch" (Diversity & the Bar, 2007).

"All of us at MS&K are so proud of Samantha for her dedication to community service and especially for this prestigious honor of being named the new president of the BWL," said MS&K Managing Partner Tom Lambert. "We wish her all the best in her tenure and will provide the support of the law firm to extend opportunities for African American women in the legal profession."
