MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 30, 2012) - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today addressed the 61st Annual Conference of the Association of Labor Relations Agencies on the subject of labour relations trends and initiatives.

"The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring strong labour relations principles and practices," said Minister Raitt. "Our government works closely with our counterparts in other countries and with labour relations agencies to share insights and best practices."

The Association of Labor Relations Agencies, which hosted the conference,
is composed of impartial government agencies in the United States and Canada responsible for administering labour-management relations laws or services. Some of this year's sessions focused on labour relations, labour-management cooperation in times of change, the use of technology in collective bargaining, and arbitration.

The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations, health and safety, as well as employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
