DELHI, INDIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 9, 2012) - The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today applauded the announcement by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) to locate a new fertilizer plant in Becancour, Quebec. This decision is expected to result in approximately 500 construction jobs in Quebec.
"Today's announcement demonstrates that our efforts to access new markets abroad and keep our economy strong are helping create Canadian jobs at home," said Minister Oliver during his economic mission to India. "The Harper Government is on the right track for jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity. Our low-tax plan for jobs and growth supports businesses that want to create jobs across our country."
Based in New Delhi, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative is expected to invest between $200 million and $1.2 billion in the construction of a new urea plant. Construction is expected to begin by 2017-2018. Strengthened relations between Canada and India have also resulted in $9 billion in investments in Canada from Mumbai-based Aditya Birla Group.
