Metta World Peace to Become Executive Producer of Electric City

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 3, 2013) -  Los Angeles Laker, Metta World Peace, has been confirmed as an Executive Producer of the dramatic feature Electric City, in collaboration with Read Between the Lines Productions. The film is currently in preproduction in Schenectady, New York. Golden Globe nominee, Joey Lauren Adams (Big Daddy, The Break-Up, Chasing Amy), stars as Tammy, the matriarch of a highly dysfunctional family. The film is written and directed by Nick DeRuve, a Schenectady native.

Metta World Peace comments, "I've been looking to attach myself, and my company, AMG, to films with compelling stories that portray real life situations, and Electric City contains all those elements. This film speaks to the importance of family and accepting people and situations as they are, and given our country's current economic situation, I think this is a powerful story that a lot of people will relate to. I'm thrilled to be a part of this project."

Electric City is set in the economically struggling community of Schenectady, and will be filmed entirely on location. The story follows a single mother, Tammy (Adams), and her three teenage children, as they struggle to stay together when faced with an imminent eviction notice. With their mother caught in a downward spiral, it falls to the three children, who are each at dangerous crossroads of their own, to find a way to overcome their plight and save the family from their fate.

Joining Adams in the cast is Liz Mikel ("Friday Night Lights") in a supporting role. Cast as siblings, are real-life brother and sister Harrison & Emma Holzer, joined by Brandon Elonzae. Harrison Holzer is featured as Sam Rockwell's son in the upcoming Better Living Through Chemistry. Emma Holzer (Spring Breakers) has two features releasing this year, and appears as Steve Buscemi's niece on "Boardwalk Empire."

Roger Moran, along with Nick DeRuve of Read Between the Lines will produce. Metta World Peace joins Albert Sandoval and Daemon Hillin of RadioactiveGiant and Brendan Davis of Tangible Entertainment as executive producers. Final casting is underway and principal photography is slated to begin in the summer of 2013.
