DIGBY, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - July 12, 2012) - Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, today announced the Government of Canada will provide additional funding to the Digby Harbour Port Association to allow all urgent repairs and improvements at the Digby Harbour to start, including the construction of a breakwater.
"The Digby Harbour Port Association has been instrumental in managing the harbour in recent years and the Government of Canada is proud to support their continuing work," said Kerr. "The planned work will support the fishing industry and benefit the local economy by creating jobs and promoting growth."
"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting Canada's coastal communities," said MP Kerr. "This investment will help the Digby Harbour Port Association develop important infrastructure to support marine-related activities at Digby Harbour and throughout the entire region."
The Digby Harbour Port Association has managed Digby Harbour since it took ownership of the harbour in 2007. The Association is working to improve port infrastructure for fishing, recreational boating, tourism and commercial shipping. Facilities in the port include the Fisherman's Wharf, Bay Ferries' Ferry Terminal, and the Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club Marina.
