NEW HOPE, PA--(Marketwire - Feb 5, 2013) - MeetMe, Inc. (NYSE MKT: MEET), the public market leader for social discovery, announced support for Trend Micro's fourth annual "What's Your Story?" contest sponsored by Trend Micro Internet Safety for Kids & Families, as well as other participating organizations. The user generated video contest empowers youth to be leaders in educating others about the safe and responsible use of the Internet and is designed to give youth a voice in the solution while showcasing a positive use of social media. This marks MeetMe's third consecutive year supporting the contest.
"We are pleased to continue our support of this program on behalf of our users and laud Trend Micro for empowering youth to lead the discussion," said Don Eyer, Vice President of Safety, MeetMe, Inc. "We believe that safety education is an important aspect of keeping safe online and via www.socialsafety.org, our public service site, we have already distributed more than 50,000 safety packets to schools this year."
"We are grateful for MeetMe's continued support of Trend Micro's 'What's Your Story?' contest and applaud its commitment to online safety. Together, our two organizations can help kids approach technology with the right information they need to use it confidently and wisely. The contest is a great way to showcase the good that happens with technology through these creative young voices," said Lynette Owens, director of Trend Micro Internet Safety for Kids & Families.
"What's Your Story?" enables and empowers kids, parents, teachers and schools around the world to use technology safely, responsibly, and successfully. What makes "What's Your Story?" unique is the peer review and crowdsourcing that is used to help select the winners. Unlike other video contests that usually rely on static and subjective criteria, "What's Your Story?" gets youth to stay actively engaged throughout the entire contest, from the time the videos are submitted until the winners are chosen. The grand prizes are $10,000 for an individual film-maker and $10,000 for a school.
