A ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the new Townsend Street Parklet at 236 Townsend Street. This event marks the culmination of the transformation of metered parking spaces into a unique public space the entire community can enjoy. Join neighbors, community partners, and sponsors as they share a toast in the Townsend Street Parklet and celebrate what they accomplished together.
Why:
The Pavement to Parks Program is an initiative focused on adding public space and making use of underutilized land in San Francisco. Currently, more than 100 parklets are completed or in progress, providing San Franciscans seating, green space, and places to gather. The new Townsend Street Parklet contains tables and chairs for public use.

Joe D'Urso partnered with the following neighboring businesses on this community project: Wallace, Roberts and Todd, LLC (444 Townsend Street) for concept design and architectural services; Arc Wood &Timber (38 Clyde Street) donated building material (reclaimed wood from the demolition of 25 Lusk); Art Haus (411 Brannan Street) was consulted for visual aesthetics; Ian Glidden (101 The Embarcadero) prepared construction and permit drawings, and Swinerton Builders (260 Townsend Street) donated general construction services.
