OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2012) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will dedicate the new Canadian Firefighters Memorial, located at the corner of Lett and Wellington streets in Ottawa, and take part in the Canadian firefighters annual memorial ceremony on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. The Governor General will deliver remarks. Firefighters from across the country and members of the public are invited to attend the event.
This special ceremony, hosted by the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF), will include the official dedication of the new Canadian Firefighters Memorial and will pay tribute to the nearly 1 100 Canadian firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, serving Canada. Following the dedication portion of the ceremony, the names of 12 firefighters added to the honour roll over the last year will be commemorated and their surviving family members will be given ceremonial medals.
