OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2012) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will deliver the opening address during the Inaugural Ceremony of the 127th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), being held on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., at the Québec City Convention Centre.
The Assembly will take place from October 21 to 26, 2012, in the City of Québec. The overall theme will focus on the role of parliaments in addressing the challenges of citizenship, identity, and linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world.
The Parliament of Canada has a long history of active and engaged participation in the work and meetings of the IPU. This will be the fourth time in the 120-year history of the IPU that Canada will host the Assembly, and the first time in more than 25 years.
