ZURICH, SWITZERLAND--(Marketwire - Oct. 12, 2012) - The ONE DROP organization, an initiative of Guy Laliberté, Founder of Cirque du Soleil™, organized a charity event last Thursday, October 4 in Zurich to raise awareness of the necessity of universal access to water, and to finance ONE DROP's water-access projects around the world. This event was an opportunity to discover the organization's mission and projects, supported in Switzerland by two important partners: Lombard Odier and the Audemars Piguet Foundation.
"ONE DROP is proud to count on the support of these solid partners in Switzerland, Europe's fresh water basin. With their collaboration, we are honoured to contribute so that the Swiss may be proud ambassadors of water for all," exclaims Catherine B. Bachand, Interim Executive Director of ONE DROP.
An event to raise awareness
The October 4 event, LA SOIRÉE ONE DROP, sponsored by Lombard Odier, was held at Zurich's former Hardturm Stadium. The benefit event assembled some 300 guests for a presentation of the Cirque du Soleil show Corteo. Funds raised will enable ONE DROP to finance a range of projects improving access to water and promoting responsible water management in developing countries. Since its creation in 2007, the organization has developed integrated water-access projects in Nicaragua, Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador, India and Burkina Faso. These initiatives will ultimately facilitate a significant and enduring improvement in the lives of over 300,000 people.
"By backing ONE DROP, our foundation is endorsing the values of responsibility and sustainability. This partnership also illustrates our commitment to the community and the specific attention we pay to the legacy that we leave to future generations," notes Patrick Odier, Senior Partner of Lombard Odier & Cie.
LA SOIRÉE ONE DROP in Zurich also relied on the generosity of the Cirque du Soleil and many other partners that contributed to the event's success: Coastal, Gianni Kovačević, Air Canada, RFK, Crystal Catering, Grey Goose, Roederer, Ramos Pinto, Lindt and Ittinger, as well as all the volunteers. On October 12, Lombard Odier will present LA SOIRÉE ONE DROP in London, this time on the occasion of the European premiere of the Cirque du Soleil show Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour™.
Joining forces for El Salvador
In addition to participating in this benefit event, the Audemars Piguet Foundation pledged a donation earmarked entirely for ONE DROP's Project El Salvador. "Our Project El Salvador aims to improve the lives of nearly 23,000 recipients by 2016, and without a doubt, the benefaction of the Audemars Piguet Foundation will help us to reach that ambitious goal. This donation evidences the generosity and the determination of the Foundation to actively work to provide safe water to all, today and always," explains Catherine B. Bachand.
"Contacts between our two organizations in working out the details of this collaboration highlighted the match between our philosophies. Water, forests, education and respect for others are the keys to a possibly better future for the people who live off the forest, and indeed for all of us", clarifies Jasmine Audemars, Chair of the Audemars Piguet Foundation.
The Audemars Piguet Foundation's substantial contribution will permit 13,200 fruit and forest trees to be planted to prevent soil erosion and to supply a stable food resource to the affected communities. The surplus fruit would be sold to supplement the revenues of many families. The Foundation's cooperation will also enable the establishment of 200 energy-efficient stoves, reducing deforestation by limiting wood combustion and improving the air that these families breath.
