Kilopass Non Volatile Memory XPM Intellectual Property Core Holds Configuration Data in Haier Digital TV Decoder

Kilopass Extra Permanent Memory (XPM) NVM IP Functionality Wins Haier Design Over Competitive NVM Alternatives

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - Kilopass Technology Inc., a leading provider of semiconductor logic non-volatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP), today announced that its XPM IP is integrated into a Haier Set Top Box (STB) decoder SoC targeting the global high-growth STB market. Configuration data for mixed signal components are programmed in Kilopass XPM IP for each Haier SoC during final test and can be reprogrammed once installed to accommodate wear in the mixed signal components over time.

"We are pleased with our choice of the Kilopass XPM IP," said Peijia Liang, IC design department design manager at Haier (Beijing) IC Design Company Ltd. "We needed an NVM solution that could be implemented in standard logic CMOS, that could migrate to different foundries, that allowed field programmability, and that provided long-term reliability. Kilopass XPM delivered all this capability."

"The Haier SoC design was a terrific win for our XPM offering," said Linh Hong, vice president of marketing at Kilopass. "The patented anti-fuse technology in the XPM IP comes with a capability that cannot be matched by other NVM alternatives, for example the ability to scale with each new CMOS process generation down to 28nm and beyond. Anti-fuse NVM technology is also more resilient than other NVM alternatives: it is not subject to data loss over time and is not affected by high temperature operation."

The Haier STB decoder SoC targets the growing global digital television market. According to a report covering 73 countries published by Digital TV Research, between 2010 and 2016, the number of digital TV homes will double to nearly 1.2 billion. The Digital TV World Household Forecasts report estimated that digital penetration will climb from 42.5 percent at the end of 2010 to 80.0 percent by 2016. At the end of 2010 only Finland was completely digital, but by 2016, 33 countries will have gone completely digital.
