WHAT
KEMA, a leading authority in energy consulting, testing, and certification, today announced the grand opening of its Smart Grid Interop Lab (SGIL) in Erlanger, Kentucky. The SGIL is the industry's first and only independent test facility offering impartial verification of device interoperability. Successful smart grid deployments will depend on technologies' end-to-end integration and compatibility. KEMA's state-of-the-art lab will help utilities and vendors validate smart grid technology, understand interoperability standards, while integrating new technologies with existing assets. The SGIL leverages a suite of KEMA's own tools and technologies, as well as innovative new products from various manufacturers in the areas of low-voltage automation devices, meters, and consumer products. The SGIL will play an integral role in advancing the industry's various testing standards, cutting-edge technologies, and the creation of a national smart grid interoperability framework.

The grand opening will allow attendees to browse demonstrations by subject matter experts and network with KEMA management, industry stakeholders, and featured guest speakers discussing the importance of interoperability for the future grid.
