Jay S. Yadav, M.D., Named Chairman of SEMDA Board

CardioMEMS Founder and CEO Assumes Leadership Role in the Southeastern Medical Device Association


ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2011) - Jay S. Yadav, M.D., founder and CEO of CardioMEMS, an Atlanta-based medical device company that has developed and is commercializing a proprietary wireless sensing and communication technology for the human body, has been elected Chairman of the Board of the Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA).

Dr. Yadav, an interventional cardiologist and a consulting cardiologist at the Piedmont Heart Institute, founded CardioMEMS in 2000 to develop new devices to improve the management of chronic cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure. Prior to his work with CardioMEMS, Dr. Yadav was the founder of Angioguard, acquired by Johnson & Johnson, and an initial investor and director of SMART Therapeutics, later acquired by Boston Scientific. Dr. Yadav is also on the board of directors for several private medical device and technology companies.

A strong believer of contributing to the community, Dr. Yadav has been co-chair of the Metro Atlanta Bioscience Leadership Council, chairman of the Medical Device Committee and a director of Georgia Bio and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE). He is an active member of the American Heart Association and chair of the 2013 Atlanta Heart Ball.

Dr. Yadav has authored two books, over two hundred publications, and has received numerous awards including the AHA Top Ten Scientific Advances in 2003, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2004, the SEMDA Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2010, a 2011 Atlanta Telecom Professional of the Year Award, and a 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for healthcare in the southern region. Recently, Dr. Yadav was honored as a "Health Care Hero" by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
