Janet's Planet Launches National Live Show: "Tour the Solar System"

Children's Science Education Television Program Expands to Live Audience Show, Debuts at Adventure Science Center in Nashville Before Touring the U.S.

NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwire - Aug 30, 2011) - Janet's Planet, an innovative children's educational television show airing on public broadcasting stations across the country for more than a decade, today announced it will embark on a nationwide live tour. The show -- "Tour the Solar System" -- will premiere at Adventure Science Center in Nashville on Sept. 18.

"Tour the Solar System" follows the Janet's Planet model of marrying the entertaining and educational. Starring creator Janet Ivey, the show will take kids on a journey through outer space and incorporate sophisticated video technology to give the illusion that they are actually watching adventures unfold on the moon, Mars or in NASA's mission control room. Geared for children aged 6 to 10 years old, it employs high energy songs and functioning robots to teach science lessons. Each show lasts 45 minutes and invites audience participation to further the plot.

"I am overjoyed to be headed to the stage for my first live Janet's Planet tour, which I have dreamed about for years," said Ivey. "My goal has long been to raise kids up to stand in their own magnificence, and I am excited to bring Janet's Planet to fans throughout the country."

"Tour the Solar System" is produced by Ivey and PK Pictures, and JRA Fine Arts will take the show on tour. After its premiere at Adventure Science Center in Nashville, the show will tour 10 cities across the U.S. throughout the fall and winter, beginning in Largo, Fla. at the Performance Art Center on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Other cities on the tour include Rochester and Buffalo, N.Y., Newark, Ohio, and Wichita, Kan.

"Janet has helped children across America learn more about science, as well as themselves," said Beth Curley, President and CEO of Nashville Public Television, the presenting station for Janet's Planet. "She builds their self-confidence, their curiosity and their love of learning. We fully expect this live show to reach even more children and applaud Janet on this tremendous accomplishment."

Janet's Planet has received a multitude of awards including 10 regional Emmy awards and 5 Gracie Awards and currently airs on more than 100 public television stations nationwide.
