Just how many of your Facebook friends do you really know? Most of us are guilty of adding people we do not know or accepting friend requests whether for the purpose of networking, out of curiosity or in the hopes of forming a romantic connection. Regardless of how it happened, there are people on your list who you've never met but who piqued your interest at some point. So why not meet them face-to-face? Sitting In A Tree (SIAT), Canada's Premier Matchmaking Service is granting you the opportunity to reach out to those Facebook friends and meet them at The Atlantis Pavilion in Toronto on April 13th, 2013, for this event appropriately named "It's A Small World After All." Partial proceeds of this event will be donated to Aaron's Apple (www.aaronsapple.com), a charity that helps families with chronically ill children cope with overwhelming medical costs.
"The purpose of this event is to personalize the relationships we have with our Facebook friends who we have actually never had the chance to meet face-to-face or who we only communicate with online, in a safe and interactive space, while raising money for a charity we believe in," says Stacie Ikka, Founder of Sitting In A Tree Inc.
The event, which will be held on April 13, 2013 at The Atlantis Pavilion will give Facebookers in the GTA the chance to mix and mingle with their own friends, while meeting other Facebook users.
According to a Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Social Site study, the average Facebook user has never met 7% of their Facebook friends in real life, which means that on average about 16 people on a given Facebook Friends list are actually more like strangers. Users on average have only met 3% of their list (around 7 people) just once.
"I felt it was time to take the online world offline for a special night of live entertainment and social interaction to provide our followers and friends with the opportunity to meet new people. It's what we do best at Sitting In A Tree, make connections," says Ikka.
This event comes with the recent launch of Sitting In A Tree's Event Division. The purpose of this new, highly sought-after division is to offer a variety of events to fill people's social calendars, whether they are single, coupled, gay, lesbian, or married. It is the intention of SIAT to bring people together to make new connections through events and activities to alleviate the ennui of what so often becomes our routine-driven lives.
Through the Event Division, SIAT is also offering a series of events catered exclusively to the singles market, with the intent to provide singles with the opportunity to meet other singles at interactive events held at activity-based venues to alleviate the pressure of forced conversation and awkward silences.
