Infobright Unveils First Database Appliance Purpose Built for Analyzing Machine Generated Data

High Performance System Delivers Scalability, Simplicity at Lowest Cost Point Under $4,900 per Terabyte

TORONTO--(Marketwire - Sep 24, 2012) - Infobright today announced Infopliance, the industry's first database appliance specifically designed for fast and affordable analysis of machine generated data. The integration of Infobright's acclaimed analytic database with dedicated server and storage hardware provides the industry's most cost-effective, scalable solution for extracting insight from growing volumes of real-time and historical information generated by Web logs, network logs, call detail records, security data, sensor data and more. The Infopliance™ system scales from 12 to 144 terabytes of data in a single appliance node and costs under $4,900 per terabyte of data at the high end, one-half to one-third the cost of other database appliances.

"We are seeing organizations move from analyzing one or two terabytes of data to 20 or 50 terabytes in incredibly short timeframes," said Don DeLoach, president and CEO of Infobright. "Many are considering multi-purpose database appliances to store machine-generated data because they like the simplicity, but they do not like the high price tag. With Infopliance, we are breaking through the cost/performance barrier."

Unlike general-purpose database appliances, Infopliance is uniquely tuned for the fast and efficient analysis of large volumes of machine-generated data. By pre-loading this singularly focused software directly on hardware complete with the operating system, Infobright is eliminating complexity, and delivering a high-performing, high availability and scalable solution that can be installed and maintained at dramatically lower costs. Infopliance is based on Infobright's patented Knowledge Grid architecture and columnar technology, which delivers very fast response to complex analytic queries without having to index, create projections or otherwise manually tune the database.

"More businesses -- particularly in telecommunications, online/mobile advertising and the emerging Smart Grid arena -- need to analyze machine-generated data to learn more about their customers, improve service quality and make quicker, more profitable decisions," said Phillip Howard, research director at Bloor Research. "Harnessing, storing and keeping up with this exponentially growing data can be expensive. With Infopliance, Infobright is offering a powerful yet simple-to-use database appliance that delivers the performance and scalability needed to capitalize on this swiftly growing category of Big Data."

"The success of our analytics service absolutely depends on an ability to keep pace with ever increasing volumes of mobile data," said Tim Moss, chief data officer, Bango and an Infobright customer. "Infopliance offers a great next step for higher scalability to support both the rapid growth of our business and a swiftly expanding Big Data load."

Features and benefits of Infopliance include:

  • Fast query processing, especially for ad hoc analysis, with no indexing, partitioning or manual tuning required

  • Scales from 12 to 144 terabytes per node with no hardware change

  • Supports thousands of users

  • High availability, including automatic failover, as well as backup, recovery and data protection capabilities

  • Simple set-up and administration, supported by Infobright's self-tuning and self-managing architecture

  • Easy integration with popular big data platforms like Hadoop, BI dashboards, traditional databases and more

  • Lower total cost of ownership, with starting costs as little as one half to one third of traditional appliance solutions

  • 7x24x365 support for all Infopliance installations

More information about Infopliance will be presented at a webinar on October 10 at 2 PM ET. Infopliance will be generally available in the fourth quarter of this year. Multi-node configurations that will scale to petabytes of data are planned for 2013.
