FRAMINGHAM, MA--(Marketwire - Sep 19, 2012) - The DEMO Conference, world-renowned for launching the most innovative technology products in the industry, today announced technology media veteran Erick Schonfeld will take the helm as DEMO executive producer. Schonfeld begins the role after DEMO Fall on October 1 - 3, and will immediately begin preparations for DEMO's 2013 conference lineup.
Over the past three years, the conference has expanded both domestically and internationally, and Schonfeld will continue to drive this growth and evolution as well as take over responsibilities of sourcing, vetting, and selecting the companies that will present at each DEMO conference in North America.
"It's never been easier to start a company or create a new product," said Schonfeld. "I want to find the ones that will define the way we will live and work in the years to come, and reveal them first onstage at DEMO."
Schonfeld brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to the DEMO Conference, and as executive producer, he will focus on providing a unique platform for guiding companies through a successful public launch process via interactions with venture capitalists, media, potential partners and customers.
He began his twenty year career as an award winning journalist at Fortune magazine before becoming Editor-at-Large for Business 2.0 magazine. After leaving Business 2.0, Schonfeld began his tenure at TechCrunch, which culminated as Editor-in-Chief.
In his appointment, Schonfeld succeeds Matt Marshall, founder and CEO of VentureBeat, who led DEMO under a three and half year contract that expires this Fall. "It's been a great three years, and I couldn't be leaving this in better hands," said Marshall. "Erick has the perfect combination of brains, experience and conviction to take DEMO to the next step. He's such an obvious fit, he was the first person I reached out to when looking for a successor."
"The DEMO Conference has a remarkable history as not only the launch platform for some of the industry's most disruptive technologies, but also as a robust training ground for the companies participating in each demonstrator class. This experience is due in large part to the extraordinary leaders DEMO has had over the last 22 years," said Neal Silverman, General Manager and Senior Vice President, DEMO. "Erick's rich history in technology-focused media and events made him the right choice to succeed Matt Marshall to continue growing DEMO's legacy as a conference focused on providing innovative start-ups a place to successfully shine at launch."
Schonfeld is just the sixth executive producer of DEMO in its rich 22-year history. The DEMO conference was founded by Stewart Alsop in 1991, and since that time, DEMO executive producers have included Dave Coursey, Chris Shipley, Jim Forbes and Matt Marshall. Over the years, DEMO has steadfastly remained the most acclaimed and successful launchpad for new products and companies such as Adobe Acrobat, Boingo Wireless, E*Trade, Java, JAJAH, the Palm Pilot, Picasa, Salesforce.com, Six Apart, TiVO, VMware and WebEx, among many others.
