Governor General to Welcome His Excellency Jayaka M. Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2012) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will welcome His Excellency Jayaka M. Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, on the occasion of his State visit to Canada, on Wednesday October 3 and Thursday, October 4, 2012.

"Tanzania is a significant African partner for Canada, and I look forward to welcoming President Kilwete - one of the most active regional leaders and constructive players in Africa - to Canada," said the Governor General. "I am especially eager to discuss Tanzania's progress in making education more accessible, thereby securing a better future for the children and youth of that country."

The Governor General and the President will participate in the following events:

Official Welcoming Ceremony

His Excellency Jayaka M. Kikwete will arrive on the Rideau Hall grounds by landau. During the official welcoming ceremony, the President will receive military honours and conduct the inspection of a 100-person guard of honour. The ceremony will conclude with remarks from the Governor General and the President.

Ceremonial Tree Planting

His Excellency Jayaka M. Kikwete will plant a bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa) along the main drive at Rideau Hall to commemorate his State visit to Canada.
