SUMMERSIDE, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND--(Marketwire - Aug. 26, 2011) - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, announced today up to $5,000 in funding for the official opening of the Air Force Heritage Park in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
"Our government is proud to support great community projects like this one," said Minister Blaney. "We commend all those involved with the creation of the Air Force Heritage Park for doing their part to recognize the men and women who have served our country, past and present."
The new park was established by the Aviation Heritage Society (PEI) Inc. and is located at the entrance to the Slemon Park Aerospace Centre, formerly known as Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Summerside. Displays include restored aircraft, interpretive panels, and a "Walk of Honour" commemorating both military and civilian personnel who have served Canada at home and abroad.
"Military aviation has a strong and proud history on Prince Edward Island," said Minister Shea. "This project not only showcases the rich military history of the Island, but also demonstrates to Veterans and currently serving military personnel that their dedication and sacrifices will not be forgotten."
Applications for the Community Engagement Partnership Fund are accepted throughout the year. Non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events may be eligible for funding.
