GE Showcases Digital Power Solutions at Intelec 2012

Innovative Retrofit Solutions Upgrade Inefficient Power Plant Systems Preserving Original Technology Investments

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - Oct 1, 2012) - GE's Industrial Solutions business (NYSE: GE) today announced it will be showcasing Power Electronics' digital power solutions and unveiling new GE financing options at Intelec 2012, being held in Scottsdale, Ariz. GE is helping telecom and energy customers extend the life of their existing power infrastructures by upgrading obsolete or inefficient systems with new plug-in, digital power solutions backed by GE's comprehensive service, maintenance and leasing options. In addition, Mark Johnson, GE's director, Energy Systems R&D, will present a compelling case study titled "DC Power Plant Rectifier Efficiency," at Intelec 2012 on Monday, Oct. 1 at 3:15 p.m.

"To minimize CAPEX dollars and operating costs, telecom and energy companies continue to squeeze as much out of their existing infrastructure as possible," said Jeff Schnitzer, general manager -- Power Electronics. "However, this lack of investment often leads to inefficiencies that increase operating costs and reliability concerns. To help address this situation, GE is offering plug-in solutions to quickly upgrade older power plant systems -- without the need to completely rip and replace the entire infrastructure."

Today's announcement underscores GE's position as an industry leader and key player within the telecom and energy sectors by offering a complete, turnkey package that simplifies the cumbersome and often frustrating process of upgrading existing power plants. The Power Electronics retrofit solutions are bundled into three categories:

  1. Product solutions -- Innovative digital plug-ins to quickly upgrade aging power infrastructures. Products include the Ferro SCR Retrofit Power Solution, ECS Retrofit Power Solution and the 596 Rectifier Retrofit.
  2. GE's world-class service solutions including installation and maintenance coverage.
  3. Low-cost leasing solutions to help enable quick upgrades without impacting CAPEX budgets.

"It is estimated that a large majority of major carrier switching sites today have Ferroresonant technologies in service," added Schnitzer. "By upgrading to more efficient solutions, it is possible to save more than 300 million kWh a year. In addition, GE's new packaged solutions and leasing options will help customers realize immediate savings."
