Edgeware Selected by Ziggo, One of Europe's Most Successful Cable Operators, to Power Multiscreen Services

The Netherlands' Ziggo Implements Edgeware's D-VDN System for Live Streaming to iPhones and iPads

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - Sep 7, 2012) - IBC booth 4.B71 - Edgeware, the technology leader in distributed video delivery, today announced that the largest cable operator in the Netherlands, Ziggo, is using Edgeware's Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) system, managed by the Convoy VDN software suite, to provide multiscreen services to its internet subscribers. Following the successful launch of the first iPad app in March 2011, the Ziggo TV 2.0 app, launched in December, gives Ziggo's subscribers access to the most popular Dutch live TV channels on iPads, iPhones and iPods alike.

The Ziggo solution is one of the first deployments of the Convoy VDN (Video Delivery Network) software suite, which is one of the main elements to Edgeware's D-VDN system. Convoy VDN intuitively integrates core functions, such as request routing, content gateway and reporting, with the central and edge streaming servers, providing the operator with complete integrated management of a Distributed Video Delivery Network. This allows the network service provider to offer "operator owned" CDN video delivery capabilities across any network topology and incorporates the required interfaces and management functions to allow the operator to provide both retail and wholesale (CDN) services to content providers. The encoding capabilities are delivered by RGB Networks, and the systems integrator is Divitel.

"When we launched the Convoy VDN software suite this time last year, we immediately saw great interest from major operators requiring highly flexible, scalable solutions that could be implemented on accelerated timelines," said Joachim Roos, CEO at Edgeware. "Ziggo's rapid deployment of an innovative and competitive service offering for multiscreen customers shows their relentless commitment to success in a highly competitive and fast moving market."

Meet Edgeware at IBC in Amsterdam, Sept 7-11, at stand 4.B71. Convoy VDN was recently shortlisted for the prestigious CSI Awards in the category "Best IPTV technology or service."
