Eastwick Accelerates Cleantech Growth, Hires Media Star as VP

Veteran Journalist Mike Kanellos Joins Eastwick, Brings Journalist's Perspective and Relationship to Leading Silicon Valley Communications Practice

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Jan 30, 2012) - Eastwick announced today that technology journalist Michael Kanellos will join its senior management team. The new vice president brings over a decade of experience reporting on cleantech and computing to a public relations agency that has served Silicon Valley's tech community for 20 years.

High momentum and growth has attracted key talent to Eastwick with an executive team drawn from Google, Apple and HP. Eastwick's commitment to the future growth of cleantech innovation drew Kanellos to the firm. "I chose Eastwick because it has deep roots in technology and a Silicon Valley location. Eastwick is part of the firmament of life here, and will continue to play a crucial role in the technology and cleantech industries," he said.

"Mike's proven ability to see the value in emerging technologies -- be they IT, consumer or green -- makes him a strategic ally for Eastwick's established and future clients," said Barbara Bates, Eastwick founder and CEO. "His insights and deep industry relationships will bring new positioning, messaging and impact opportunities to our portfolio. We value his ability to think outside of the box and know that his perspective will bring value to all of our technology clients."

Kanellos' areas of expertise include cleantech, IT, intellectual property and international trends. As a senior reporter for News.com, a division of CNET networks, Kanellos covered computing and personal electronics before segueing to cleantech in 2004. After initiating the cleantech push at CNET, he was invited to lead the editorial team at Greentech Media. His work has appeared in Forbes, The New York Times, Wired, Newsweek and Newsday.

Eastwick's new addition will oversee the agency's expansion of its cleantech practice. He will apply a keen awareness of the market to recommend positioning, strategy and messaging for Eastwick clients, and drive long-term results.

"Despite some setbacks, clean technology will become one of the primary industries in the coming century, and the rate of innovation will accelerate. We are nowhere near a plateau. We will see innovation in energy, but also in water, agriculture, chemistry, IT, material science and even behavioral psychology," said Kanellos.

"Mike is a leading voice in cleantech and a visionary for what's possible for this business segment," said Ellen Petry Leanse, Senior Vice President. "His grasp of the market nuances and opportunity -- and his passion for the positive impact of cleantech innovation -- is unique in the industry, and further increases Eastwick's value as partners to cleantech's rising stars."
