OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 7, 2012) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Kimberly Woodhouse as a member of the Council.
"Dr. Woodhouse will be a welcome addition to the Council," said Minister Paradis. "She joins NSERC with a wealth of experience from the private sector and a background in teaching and professional accreditation-all of which will be of great value to NSERC and its work, which supports university research in science and engineering."
Dr. Woodhouse is Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and Professor with the Department of Chemical Engineering, both at Queen's University. She is also the Director of Product Development for Elastin Specialties Inc.
Previously, she held several teaching positions at the University of Toronto, provided consulting services for Think Company Inc. and Gilmore & Associates Inc., and has a number of years of experience in private sector manufacturing.
In addition to NSERC, Dr. Woodhouse sits on several boards and committees of Queen's University and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Biomedical Engineering: Polymer Edition. She also serves as Vice-Chair on the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Review Panel.
Dr. Woodhouse is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and of BioMaterials Science and Engineering. She is also the recipient of Engineers Canada's Medal for Distinction in Engineering Education and the Premier's Research Excellence Award.
