LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug. 13, 2012) - While winter may seem like a long way off, it will come around sooner than you think. While no-one can predict the weather too far in advance, and there's no guarantee of a repeat of last year's harsh winter, a return to below-average conditions with freezing temperatures cannot be entirely ruled out. In that regard, it makes sense to plan ahead and at least give some thought to the coming months.
The conditions combined with the squeeze on finances that is affecting everyone, means householders are looking at ways to save money this winter. However ensuring that you have a modern, efficient boiler system, or efficient insulation, is one way to stop your money evaporating into thin air through heat loss.
While the installation of a new boiler may seem like a daunting expense, there are several government schemes, as well as company offers, available. The Government's Warm Front Scheme, for example, installs insulation and heating measures such as cavity insulation, loft insulation, or water tank insulation for people on certain disability or income-related benefits who either own their own home or rent it from a private landlord.
This scheme could provide people with a new boiler along the same lines as the new British Gas boilers that are currently available at a heavy discount until 31st August. The Warm Front Scheme is only available in England - but there are equivalent schemes available in the rest of the UK - and will cease in October 2012. You can find out if you qualify by going online, by freepost, or by freephone on 0800 316 2805.
For those who do not qualify, there are offers available to have a new boiler installed. Failing that, it may be wise to look into taking out provision for your boiler. Investing in boiler cover from British Gas, for example, will not only mean your boiler is serviced and therefore brought up to the best possible standard, but you'll also be insured and guarded against anything that could potentially go wrong. Boiler and controls breakdown cover will mean that if anything does goes wrong, you and your family will not be left without hot water and inconvenienced for long, problems which will be amplified if the UK suffers another winter like the last. Better still, you won't be hit with a substantial bill to fix any problem, as you will already be covered!
So whether you qualify for the Warm Front upgrade or not, the key is to plan ahead.
