BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 19, 2008) - Dimdim (www.dimdim.com), the world's free open
source web meeting company, today announced a new release of its web
meeting software specifically for the open source community. The new
version, called Dimdim Open Source Community Edition Version 3.5, nicknamed
"Eagle," is completely free and available for immediate download. Dimdim
"Eagle" is the world's first unified communications platform specifically
created for and by the open source community. To date, this community has
downloaded Dimdim's free open source web meeting software over 230,000
times.
Dimdim Eagle, which is available for both Linux and Windows platforms, is a
complete real-time unified communication environment that allows anyone to
share their desktop, show documents and slides, as well as talk, listen,
chat, and broadcast via webcam. Attendees of Dimdim-powered web meetings
do not need to install any software to join or participate.
Dimdim Open Source Community Edition "Eagle" includes the following new and
improved features:
-- Unlimited meeting attendees
-- Unlimited simultaneous meetings
-- 2-way video chat and webcam sharing
-- Multi-attendee VoIP and microphone sharing
-- Easy software appliance download which runs on multiple OSs with no
install required
-- New User Guide and other API documentation
"With such rich technologies available through the open source community,
we see absolutely no need for proprietary software, large client downloads
and ridiculous fees that are being charged for people to meet online," said
Prakash Khot, co-founder and CTO of Dimdim. "Dimdim Eagle is dedicated to
all those community members who have provided such great foundational
products, along with the amazing feedback and support we've received. All
of us at Dimdim are strong believers in the open source movement and are
fans of Alfresco, SugarCRM and other open source pioneers and we hope that
our product drives further communication and innovation throughout this
pioneering community."
Dimdim Open Source Community Edition "Eagle" is built on top of proven and
mature open source components -- such as Apache Tomcat, CherryPy
Application Server, Lighttpd, and Open office and is completely integrated
with Web 2.0 technologies -- such as AJAX, JSON, and Flash. This allows
the delivery and sharing of rich media content without any need for any
software installation by the attendee. Dimdim Open Source Community
Edition "Eagle" also utilizes advanced screen-sharing capabilities that
leverage the industry-standard RFB protocol used by VNC, which have been
further enhanced to work over HTTP/S and deliver instant and hassle-free
desktop sharing capabilities to anyone with a Flash-enabled web browser.
