DigitalTown Partners With Daktronics to Promote School Athletics and Student Accomplishments
Daktronics to Provide Statistical Data on DigitalTown Spirit Sites
MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - March 22, 2011) - DigitalTown, Inc. (OTCQB: DGTW) and Daktronics Inc. Brookings, S.Dak. (NASDAQ: DAKT), announced today the creation of a marketing partnership to extend Daktronics' reach into the high school market and strengthen DigitalTown's access to statistical data.
Daktronics will grant DigitalTown access to its Daktronics statistics software furthering DigitalTown's goal of creating the first nationwide network for high school sports statistics. With this alliance DigitalTown has improved its access to schedules, rosters and other sports content for use on the more than 20,000 stand-alone websites it is hosting and managing as high school spirit sites. In turn, DigitalTown will promote Daktronics' statistics software to schools and recognize Daktronics as a partner on these sites.
In partnering with Daktronics, DigitalTown expects to improve accuracy and streamline the process of collecting and posting sports statistics. "I am excited to work with Daktronics on this new endeavor. Daktronics already has a significant footprint in the athletic community as the world leader in the sale and manufacture of scoreboards and display systems," said Richard Pomije, CEO of DigitalTown.
DigitalTown identified Daktronics as a potential partner after establishing a strategic partnership with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association (NIAAA) in December. Through conversations with Walter Sargent, NIAAA Marketing Director, Daktronics and DigitalTown realized their shared goals of promoting accurate sports statistics online.
DigitalTown is offering its spirit site services and content at no cost to schools. According to Dan Bierschbach, Daktronics Vice President of the Schools and Theatres Business Unit, "We admire DigitalTown's commitment to the schools. It shows great initiative to seek out the domain names and partner with the NIAAA. This could bring a new avenue to social media and create an interesting evolution in how data is shared. We are looking forward to seeing the benefits of this new project. The way this program could disseminate information could be very interesting."
Daktronics will continue to provide statistical software directly to schools and other athletic organizations through its popular TeamUp program and will continue its path as a leading data provider partnering with sports organizations worldwide.
