NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jul 30, 2012) - Digital First Media, which operates MediaNews Group and Journal Register Company, today named Jonathan Cooper as Vice President Media Relations and Employee Communications.
Mr. Cooper, 38, most recently served as Vice President of Digital First Media during the Company's inception. He previously served as Vice President of Content for Journal Register Company where he led the Company's digital cultural transformation through the Ben Franklin Project, a unique open-source publishing experiment where Journal Register used free and low-cost digital tools to publish 18 daily newspapers and websites.

During his term as Vice President of Content for Journal Register Company, Mr. Cooper developed and implemented digital training sessions across the Company, led the Company's inaugural ideaLab and laid the groundwork for Project Thunderdome -- Digital First Media's centralized digital content center.

As Vice President Media Relations and Employee Communications, Mr. Cooper will report to Robert Monteleone, Digital First Media's Chief Human Resources Officer.
"Because of his broad experience at various sites and in various functions across the Company, Jon will be a critical resource dedicated to keeping our internal and external stakeholders informed of our ongoing transformation," said Mr. Monteleone.
During Mr. Cooper's nearly 16-year career with Journal Register Company he held many diverse positions including Director of Digital Content, Online Director for the New Haven Register and NHRegister.com, and Managing Editor for Special Projects at the New Haven Register where he launched both a youth-market magazine and a Spanish-language newspaper.
Prior to that Mr. Cooper served as editor of The Wallingford Voice; The Herald and The Herald Press in New Britain, Conn., and The Register Citizen in Torrington, Conn. -- now the home of the Company's open-to-the-public newsrooms.
Mr. Cooper is a graduate of Keene State College and resides in Conshohocken, Pa. with his wife Nicole and son James.
