TORRANCE, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 18, 2012) - According to Align Technology, approximately 1.7 million people across the globe have been treated with Invisalign® clear plastic teeth aligners. The innovative procedure, developed in 2007, has become a preferred choice for dental patients compared to traditional braces. Each treatment comes with custom trays designed to mold to patients' teeth using advanced dental technology. Dr. Michael Fulbright, a cosmetic dentist in Torrance, often performs Invisalign® procedures at his practice and says the treatment can be beneficial for his patients who are looking to achieve a healthy, functional, attractive smile.
There are a number of differences between Invisalign® and traditional braces. While they serve some of the same purposes, Invisalign® has the advantage of being clear and removable versus traditional braces, which are bonded to the teeth and have a less aesthetically-pleasing appearance. Dr. Fulbright says that Invisalign® can help decrease the rate of decay because patients are able to clean their teeth as usual. On the contrary, after removing traditional braces, he says he often notices decay in the patient's mouth due to the difficulty of flossing in between teeth.
At his Torrance cosmetic dentistry practice Dr. Fulbright offers a wide variety of procedures, such as smile makeovers, dental implants and Six Month Smiles®. When comparing different teeth straightening procedures, Dr. Fulbright says that each procedure has pros and cons, but Invisalign® is advantageous because it offers patients a unique treatment plan based on their particular needs. Patients are provided with aligners that are virtually invisible and can be removed whenever needed. Dr. Fulbright says patients can usually expect to see results from the Invisalign® treatment within eight months, but to ensure optimal results, patients need to wear the clear plastic aligners at all times.
Occasionally, Dr. Fulbright combines Invisalign® with teeth whitening to produce a smile makeover for his patients. He says combining procedures in this way can further help his patients achieve a healthier smile while enhancing the overall function of the teeth. Regardless of what procedure patients choose to undergo, weighing the pros and cons can help both dentist and patient achieve the best results. Some of Dr. Fulbright's patients often say they are self-conscious about their smile and they want straight teeth, but if the only option was traditional braces, they would never do it. When patients do not want to deal with having traditional braces, he recommends an easy, effective treatment such as Invisalign® in an attempt to satisfy a patient's overall expectations.
