The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today announced the appointment of Mr. Patric Whyte as full-time Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Industrial Relations Board, effective November 5, 2012.

"Mr. Whyte has a great deal of experience in the field of labour relations," said Minister Raitt. "His extensive experience and practical knowledge will undoubtedly be an asset to the Board."

During his career, Mr. Whyte has held senior positions in a number of organizations, including the Ontario Labour Relations Board, Quicksilver Arbitration Services and MVP Personnel Services, as well as Mediator and Arbitrator in a number of employer and trade unions.

Mr. Whyte, also former Chief Spokesperson at Collective Bargaining and
Chief Steward and Plant Chairperson at Retail, Wholesale and Department Store International Union, is an accredited member of the Red Sky Métis Independent Nation. As the new full-time Vice-Chairperson of the Board, Mr. Whyte will be a key player in supporting the Labour Program and promoting productive industrial relations in Canada.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board is responsible for the interpretation and administration of industrial relations in the federally regulated sector. Harmonious labour-management relations are beneficial to both the financial security of individuals and the economic prosperity of Canada.
