MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 20, 2011) - Staff, residents and family members from four Chartwell Seniors Housing residences in Calgary will be participating in the Alberta Diabetes Foundation's Halloween Howl Walk/Run on Sunday, October 23rd.
Helly Visser, who last year was inducted into the Canadian Masters Hall of Fame for her incredible athletic accomplishments, will be walking at the event alongside her husband, Keith, a stroke survivor, who currently resides at Chartwell's Royal Park Retirement Residence. "I'm looking forward to showing my support for a great cause and walking in solidarity with my husband and the wonderful group of people who care for him," said Helly.
At the age of 77, Helly has won medals over many distances, from the mile to the half marathon (delete marathons) and has been recognized many times for her impressive time results within her age category. This year she has run 2 world record times (in the indoor and outdoor mile). However, this time the Halloween Howl is not about when she crosses the finish line but that she does it together with Keith. "It doesn't matter whether you walk or run in this race, what matters is that you are out there supporting others and having a good time." Helly and Keith are to be joined by residents, staff and families of Royal Park, The Eau Claire, The Seniors Residence at The Colonel Belcher and The Harbours of New Port.
