Canadian Forces Enroll Newest Recruits

TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2012) - Today, 20 men and women from the Trois-Rivières region became the newest members of the Canadian Forces (CF) during an enrolment ceremony held on the flight deck of Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Ville de Québec.

Commander Steven Thornton, Commanding Officer of HMCS Ville de Québec, presided over the ceremony, which included the enrolment of two members under subsidized education programs and two naval reservists from HMCS Radisson.

"This is a really important day for these young men and women and their families and they should feel a great deal of pride. They have committed to serve their country in a profession unlike any other," said Commander Thornton. "When I joined the CF over twenty years ago, I knew I was in for a challenge, but I could never have imagined some of the opportunities that I have had during my career."

The Regular Force members, who represent the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army, and the Royal Canadian Air Force, will undergo their basic military training in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, before they begin their military trades training at bases throughout Canada.
