HANOVER, MD--(Marketwire - Jul 24, 2012) - Brekford Corp. (the "Company") (OTCQB: BFDI) (OTCBB: BFDI), a leading public safety technology service provider of fully integrated traffic safety solutions, vehicle up-fitting, and rugged mobile technology, recently announced that the first 6 speed cameras installed in school zones throughout Hagerstown, MD are performing better than originally expected.
Two months after their installation, city officials and law enforcement agencies are reporting an overall speeding decrease of up to 90 percent in areas where the cameras have been installed. This figure, coupled with the increase in public road safety, is a huge victory for Brekford and has Hagerstown police pleasantly surprised.
"The early results far exceeded anything we could've expected," Hagerstown Police Capt. Mark Holtzman stated to the Herald-Mail (http://articles.herald-mail.com/2012-07-02/news/32512800_1_speed-cameras-camera-vendor-speed-limits). "Since the first six cameras went live, speeding in designated school zones has dropped substantially, making roadways safer for both drivers and children alike."
"We're proud of the impact our speed cameras have made in Hagerstown in such a short period of time," added Maurice R. Nelson, Managing Director and head of Brekford's Automated Traffic Enforcement division. "These cameras remind drivers to slow down in areas that are highly populated by school children, which helps to curb dangerous driving habits both in -- and out -- of school zones."
In May alone, Brekford's cameras generated close to $30,000 in revenue, which will be reinvested back into other public safety projects in and around Hagerstown. They have also allowed police officers to go back to patrolling the streets instead of running radars.
"The success of our cameras in Hagerstown is just the tip of the iceburg for Brekford," stated C.B. Brechin, Brekford's CEO. "These numbers prove that Brekford is in the right place at the right time. As more and more municipalities evaluate ways to improve public safety, we expect this success to translate into more lucrative future opportunities."
