WALL, NJ--(Marketwire - Jul 30, 2012) - BIO-key International, Inc. (OTCBB: BKYI), a global leader in fingerprint biometric identification solutions and advanced mobile identification technology, today reported that BIO-key's fingerprint extraction and matching algorithm achieved top scores in the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) PFT II (Proprietary Fingerprint Template II Evaluation) (http://www.nist.gov/itl/iad/ig/pftii.cfm).
NIST is the federal testing and certification agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce which conducts the world's foremost independent analysis of fingerprint biometric algorithms. Leading global security solution providers and their customers consider NIST's evaluations the industry standard for measuring algorithm performance. BIO-key has been participating in the NIST evaluations for nearly a decade, and the company's algorithms consistently achieves top level scores for accuracy, re-affirmed by the latest PFT II results.
PFT II is comprised of multiple datasets, with the first being POEBVA, considered by NIST to be a higher quality dataset, and is representative of the type and quality of prints captured from modern finger scan devices. In the POEBVA evaluation for False Non-Match Rate (FNMR) @ False Match Rate (FMR) of 0.0001 (the highest accuracy level of the evaluation), BIO-key performed in the leading and top positions for False Non-Match Rates. Additionally, when NIST evaluated slap-style capture of fingerprints, BIO-key provided usability results far superior to many other participants. Usability means the correct user will gain access quickly and correctly on a consistent basis.
"BIO-key's core VST biometric algorithm was designed and built to perform with the highest accuracy and independence of end point platforms and scanner devices, which uniquely positions BIO-key within the biometric technology industry. Our customers demand complete flexibility in their deployment options, accessing our platform from a variety of devices including Citrix virtual terminals, laptops, tablets and smartphones running iOS or Android. They need to allow secure access from every device with one trusted universal solution," stated Mira LaCous, CTO and VP Technology & Development of BIO-key International, Inc. "The latest NIST PFT II results validate BIO-key as a leading biometric provider. With high accuracy and false rejection rates often below one percent, we have raised the bar for best in class performance."
